A simple, but heartfelt story line forms the basis of this coming out work from director Lucy Smith-Jones, as a gay teenager contemplates coming out to his father, backed by the support of his loving boyfriend. Only that's not all there is to it. For here screenwriter James Mellors delights in showcasing the many potential outcomes of coming out within the family and not just the polar opposites of the rejection / acceptance scenarios. Sure, the end product shows signs of its student media production, courtesy of the good folk at Sheffield Hallam University. But that said, this is a short film with its heart clearly in the right place, having highlighted the anxieties, comical fashion, inherent within the coming out process, as anxious gay boy Jack finally plucks up the courage to say it - like it is.
