What You Looking At? by Faryal From the writer and director of Pictures of Zain comes this equally multi-cultural work, one that sees Faryal employ a simple plot device to telling effect.

Given on face value this is the tale of two strangers who find themselves trapped in a lift together, when the wonders of modern technology fail. Only take a closer look at the narrative and you will find Faryal vividly contrast a woman dressed in a burka, with the glitz 'n' glam of a drag queen, namely two seemingly unalike minds who come to realize that they have more in common with each other, than what at first appeared.

In short, this is a meaningful sermon on how two differing individuals jointly face prejudice, on account of what they wear. Produced as part of the Film London Borough Film Challenge, Faryal excels in this perceptive piece of filmmaking, even if his cinematic dissertation on intolerance all but ends, just as it was beginning. Room for a sequel?

Diversity - overt.
Nudity - none.
Overall - file under ... 3+ stars.
