an animated tale of first love served with a political punch. |

From French director Pascal-Alex Vincent comes this animated tale with a message attached to it. Or perhaps that should be a sermon, given its charts the trying times of those at Saint Marie’s Orphanage.

From a Mother Superior who is deaf to the complaints raised against its chief benefactor, to that of the sweet leader of the orphaned pack; one Candy Boy whose position is under threat from new arrival and all round rebel figure Samy. Only can they put aside their differences long enough for the benefit of the children, the environment, let alone their homosexual heart?

With more than a nod and wink to the James Whale adage that a good cast is worth repeating, this bright and breezy cartoon features Chloé Berthier as the voice of Sister Prudence, aka Julie of Far West credit, whilst equally to be found on the thanks list are Alexandre and Victor Carril, aka the twin stars of Vincent’s emotional feature Give Me Your Hand, namely a work that continued Vincent’s love of the medium, having opened with a three minute animation.

Only behind all the colourful graphics to be had lies a pasture of green politics, one that here details the alarming effects of industrial contamination. That a candy boy takes it upon himself to discover why the children at the orphanage are mysteriously falling ill, equates to a tender tale of first love served with a political punch. Need more be said?
