Dave says:

From writer and director Marc Wagenaar of the lush portrayal of boys in love that is Dante vs. Mohammed Ali comes this later short film, that's frankly the weaker of the two.

For here cue the life of Alexander (Florian Regtien); a gay teenager seemingly too scared to venture out into the real world, taking refuge in the confines of a caravan that overlooks a sun-drenched beach all but patrolled by a youth (Dimitar Nikolov) who delights in dancing on top of a diving platform that looks onto the 'ever out of sight' sea. Becoming increasingly obsessed with the man, but too afraid to leave the security of his caravan, he views the world from behind a prison-like window where he and his pet parrot are to be found. Only for how much longer can Alexander's lust remain locked away behind closed doors?

Making the most of a voyeuristic role that finds Regtien with hardly anything to get his narrative teeth into, the minimal dialogue of the piece having been reserved for the closing scene between the two youths, that is but a tender exploration of the growing confidence of a young gay man and how he finally finds the inner strength to set foot on sun-kissed shores and talk to the object of his desire. For therein lies the message of this work; that of daring to leave your comfort zone to experience the wonders of the world that surround you. And surely that is a lesson for all of us. Say no more.
