Written, produced and directed by Gustav "Goodboy" Olsson, this stylish, if overtly dark short has a lot going for it, even if it's all but obvious from the onset that things are not going to turn out well for the protagonists of the piece.
Yet it was not meant to be that way, only for lover boy Karim (Alexander Abdallah) to find himself alone in the middle of the night, his partner Dan (Emil Lindberg) having seemingly vanished without trace hours before the two were due to depart for foreign shores of the sun, sea and sex variety. Suspecting that Dan may well have fallen back into the bad habits of his past, Karim is all but forced to put his own life in harm's way, knowing that the man he loves is almost certain to be found in the seedy, crime-ridden streets of Malmö's underworld and therein the arms of a dealer known by the name of Marco (Pär Malmström). Question is: will anyone make it out alive?
Intercutting past and present time frames to tell a story that explodes with raw sexuality, this intense tale of love and horror is clearly not going to be to everyone's cinematic taste, being both genuinely disturbing and yet equally compelling, as it unfolds a narrative to reveal the shocking events in the lives of two men who hours earlier were all but set to leave for a holiday of a lifetime. Yet in Olsson's hands, such is not meant to be, as a series of nightmarish images showcase how events can rapidly spiral out of control, making for a short film that is far more than just your average tale of a walk on the wild side of life. Frankly, need more be said?
