›› The Legend of Scotty Watts ‹‹

a short film by Prash Sampathkumaran.

2017 | 11 mins | US.

a bittersweet take on teenage adoration.

Dave says:

Have you ever fallen for the lead singer in a band? Well, here Julian (Luke Brau) has, being head over heels in love with the man and the music of Scotty Watts (Avery Powers). And he's not the only one, as his fellow student Marcy (Morgan Price) has, with the two bonding together over the object of their affection. Only in which direction does their true devotion lie?

This bittersweet take on teenage adoration cleverly plays on the adage of never meeting the object of your adulation, should the reality not live up to your expectation. Or rather in this case your fantasy, given obsessive fan Julian has created a fantasy world of a life with his idol, to the point where you're not quite sure whether he's in love with Scotty Watts or simply wants to be like the man himself, all along seemingly unaware that love has already arrived on his doorstep.

Pulsing with an eclectic rock soundtrack from The Midriffs, Super Defense and Loving, writer and director Sampathkumaran has crafted a vibrant ode to how reality all too often shatters, like a broken mirror, the reflection of first love. Say no more.
