Welcome to the world of Johnny (Julien Drion); an openly gay man who isn't really the 'bad boy' that everyone thinks he is, only to have a seemingly fatalistic way of getting himself into trouble. Not that it helps matters that he drinks too much, being always up for a party and some drugs along the way. Yet into his world comes the polar opposite of him in the form of Aurélien (Roman Kané). Down-to-earth, earnest and ever searching for love, he's a man who his best friend Emma (Anaïs Thomas) would marry at a moment's notice, that is if it wasn't for the fact that she likes girls and well - he likes Johnny. And so begins their odd couple relationship, with Aurélien only too well aware that his love for Johnny is all but destined to ever be of the unrequited kind. Or is it?
Pulsating with techno music and dance, this modern day take on falling in love with the bad boy in town has a lot going for it, even if the weird aspect ratio of the cinematography may take some getting used to. That said, Kané wonderfully captures the sweet and almost innocent charm of a man who, like a moth to a flame, shouldn't go there, only for his heart to forever tempt him in the direction of Johnny, played here with a remarkably realistic rough and wild edge by Drion.
Yet and for all of the pros of the piece, the ending is frankly a cop-out, having built-up to the cock-teasing sexual encounter between the two, only to then ... well, that would be saying. What can be said, is that and like many a short film I could mention, it leaves you wanting to see more.
