This striking short film from writer and director Ori Aharon has a sensuous feeling of intimacy to it, which is just as well as it follows the lives of two twenty-something men, here played by Chen Chefetz and Omri Laron, who meet for a one-night stand that gradually develops into a stay-over, as the two get to know each other in ways that go beyond sex.
Sure, we've seen this type of scenario before; that of the ever unwavering hope that love beckons between the sheets of a one-night stand. Only here it's delivered with a remarkable sense of honesty, as the two men discuss using, or perhaps not, a condom - cue the title and what it means for them personally to top or to bottom, when it comes down to sex. That the scripted dialogue flows like a natural conversation frankly is down to both Aharon's wondrous screenplay and to the Chefetz / Laron pairing who nicely underplay their roles, along the way adding some comic touches courtesy of a dance sequence that is full of so much warmth, that you cannot help but wonder if the two men, or perhaps only one of them, have fallen in love.
Well-played throughout, even if and for all of the sexual frankness of the narrative, the actual bedroom encounter itself is hardly going to warrant an X-certificate, in spite of the seemingly endless close-up cinematography creating an almost voyeuristic feel to the piece. That said and whilst the closing sexual reverse take is all but telegraphed in advance, you're never quite sure how the story will play out and if love will indeed beckon when the morning comes. Say no more.
