Dave says:

Mattis' (Lior David Cohen) love of life is dance; that of the ballroom variety. Yet it's an interest that's not shared by his father who cannot even be bothered to turn up to support his son in the latest round of the national dancing competition. Seeing other parents only too happy to be there with their children, is it any wonder that Mattis feels alone, dejected, if not ultimately rejected by his father. No surprise then that he's soon to seek solace in the arms of his dance tutor (Niels Bender); namely a man well aware of the boundaries of the student / teacher relationship. Yet what is he to do with a pupil determined to break them?

Written and directed by Mathias Broe, this well-played short is but a sexual game of cat and mouse; that of a power play between two men that can only but escalate into darker and frankly, more disturbing areas. Yet it does not begin that way and here we find Broe strikingly juxtapose the elegance of the Viennese waltz in all of its choreographed grandeur, with Mattis' unshaken desire to get up close and personal with the object of his desire, seemingly at any cost. The result is a work whose open-ended close-of-play is neither a cop-out nor that of a surprise, given the narrative gradually reveals a side to Mattis' personality that is both unnerving and yet equally heartbreaking. Say no more.
