a sweet 'n' tender tale of falling in love with your straight best friend.

Dave says:

Wonderfully directed by Samuel Montes de Oca León, this lush coming-of-age tale tells the story of César (César Acosta); a somewhat shy, introverted youth whose only friend and aspiring actor / model Pablo (Alonso Esponda) prides himself on being a hit with the girls, endlessly flirting with them, only for such flirtations and much to César's alarm, to continue in the direction of his single mother Luisa (Sandra Burgos) when he comes to stay for a sleepover. Then again, is César's jealousy of any surprise, given he also has feelings for Pablo that go well beyond those of mere friendship.

This story like so many before it and no doubt after, charts the age old scenario of falling in love with your straight best friend and whilst it has a lot going for it, the narrative notably shies away from pushing the envelope and that of the AWOL confrontation between the two young men, given what the ending implies.

Still it's beautifully played throughout, even if the cinematography is all too dark in the critical nighttime scenes. Homoerotic at times, yet equally sweet 'n' tender, this short film is all about the sexual needs and desires of a mother, her son and his best friend. Say no more.
