Official Synopsis: When Alex, a precious nine-year-old boy, develops a crush on Jared, the moody twenty-five-year-old handyman who works in the mansion where he lives, he will stop at nothing to get his attention. Dave says: Written and directed by Brooklyn-based filmmaker Nicholas Colia, this graduation work is a delightful take on the longing for friendship. For down-on-his luck performance artist Jared (Aaron Profumo) is the polar opposite of Alex (Keaton Nigel Cooke); a cute kid who lives in one of the best mansions in the neighbourhood. Yet money cannot buy happiness and with an absent father, a drunken mother and no friends, he spends his days talking to his dolls. All that is set to change however when his mother (Hogan Gorman) hires hunky Jared to work as a handyman around the house; that is when he can be bothered. Instantly developing a crush on the man, Alex does everything he can to make friends with the hired help, but seemingly to no avail. Yet this is a boy on a mission, one that finds Alex resorting to giving Jared what he knows he likes best - drink. Only with Jared downing tools at the sight of a bottle faster than a Hollywood actor rushing for an Oscar, has he forgotten the golden rule that what Alex likes - Alex gets. For that's the theme of the piece, given just what will Alex do next to gain the attention of the man he's become infatuated with? And here Cooke comes into his own, wonderfully capturing the emotions of a young boy who when faced with unrequited love, is nonetheless determined to get his man - whatever the cost! It's a comically dark piece, sharply written and well-played throughout. Yet it's also the story of a young boy who is not as sweet and innocent to the world, as what he makes out to be. Only to say more would be a spoiler.
