a short film by Dawid Ullgren.

2016 | 13 mins | Sweden.

does he love me or the bulge in my wallet?

Official Synopsis:

Fifty-something Hans is looking for a fresh start. When he is pursued by the handsome younger Andrej, he falls for him fast. As the pair get closer, his wallet becomes looser. Is Andrej interested in Hans, or just the perks of an older man?

Dave says:

And that's the question that this short film plays with, showcasing the sudden attraction between two men, whilst equally reminding the viewer of the clear age difference between the two. It's a scenario that as in real life could end well, with Ullgren keen to highlight the growing bond between two strangers in the night, as Andrej opts to stay in the company of Hans, rather than leave with his circle of friends. Only the question of - does he love me or the bulge in my wallet? never goes away, ticking away like a cinematic time bomb, ready to explode in the final moments of the short to reveal where Andrej's heart truly lies.

Well-played throughout by Aleksandar Gajic as object of desire Andrej and Bengt C.W. Carlsson as Hans who gives a touching performance of a man telling his life story, perhaps for the first time, to a stranger, having seemingly forgotten the fact that at the end of the day and no matter what the age difference between two lovers be, some relationships work and some are seemingly doomed from the start, in particular when one of the two is clearly viewing the relationship with blinkers on. Say no more.
