Before Tim died he was the number one of a close-knit boarding school gang. When the friends engage in a ritual one year after his death, a familiar game turns into a sadistic night. Dave says: Beautifully executed from start to finish, here we find director Jonas Marowski brilliantly showcase how a game of Truth or Dare quickly turns into a night that no-one will forget. Not that the descent-into-darkness scenario is anything new, but thanks to a vibrant screenplay by Julian Jarnoth Steinberg this work excels at creating a real sense of camaraderie, that is before events take on a decidedly darker nature. For and as the title implies, this is a story that revolves around the missing sixth member of the group, seen solely in flashback at the start of the short and the night, one year on, when the group meet to remember the passing of their close friend. Yet the exact nature of his death is left blowing in the wind, with the antics of everyone wonderfully misdirecting your attention from that unanswered question, until come close of play when and as expected dark secrets are finally revealed, including the gay element of the storyline, one that by no surprise involves Tom Gramenz of Prora fame. Delivered with gusto by a cast who play their roles to a narrative tee and set largely within a gym, a location that gives the production a wonderful stage feel to it, this is one of those shorts that to say more and in particular to clarify the ending, would be a spoiler.
