›› Easy Money - Dinero Fácil ‹‹ a short film by Carlos Montero. 2010 | 15 mins | Spain. a disconcerting take of life on the game. Dave says: "When a handsome rent boy shows up at a mysterious client's hotel room, the boy quickly learns that sex appears to be the last thing on his clients mind" is the official synopsis for this short film from writer and director Carlos Montero and indeed it is, as here a hustler is soon to learn that there's no such thing as easy money. Only cutie Jaime (Mario Casas) doesn't know that yet, having opted to let his body turn tricks for a quick Euro. Yet this is a rent boy still learning his trade, unlike his client Roberto (Ales Furundarena); an experienced older man into acts of a decidedly dark nature, as Jaime is set to discover to his cost. In short, here we find Montero, later of the hit Spanish television series Élite fame, deliver a disconcerting take of life on the game, along the way weaving a tale with many a roller coaster styled narrative twist and turn, courtesy of two men with the same name, but with markedly different ways of making a living and here cue Christian Mulas as Jaime #2. Backed by an atmospheric score and well played by its trio of actors, in particular by Spanish heartthrob Mario Casas who here digs deep to convey the terrified emotions of a call boy who frankly would have been better off staying at home, the result is a tense mini-thriller, one where to say more would be a spoiler. What I will add, is that fans of Casas should check out the film Sex, Party and Lies / Mentiras Y Gordas for a more 'revealing' performance from the man.
