a short film by Nizan Lotem and Lior Haen.

long suppressed home truths come out in the open.

Dave says:

When their best friend Yossi (Yossi Maman) gets lost in the desert, openly gay Lior (Lior Haen) and deeply religious Elad (Elad Herman) set out to find him, only for their quest to reveal how they truly feel about each other, as a series of long suppressed home truths, if not outright prejudice, come out in the open. And that's basically the synopsis of this short film from the writing / directing partnership of Nizan Lotem and Lior Haen.

Only there's a lot more going on here, than naturally meets the eye. For with Maman out of the picture for the main part, this work is but a melting pot of emotions, as the age-old debate on religion and homosexuality comes into focus. To that end, Haen and Herman excel in their opposing roles, with the character of Lior letting rip on his journey to accept his sexual self, in the face of a man who speaks with a religious voice, only to be lapse when it comes to practising his faith. That things get heated between them, is an understatement to put it mildly, in particular when Elad reveals how gay men genuinely make him feel.

Shot mainly with a handheld camera that creates a wonderful sense of seemingly being caught in the middle of the warring factions, this near two-man piece is based around close friends finally revealing how they feel about each other, even if the truth is going to hurt. And therein lies the bitter irony of the situation, given Elad whilst wishing to extend the hand of religious compassion, has no idea as to how bigoted his views are and the deep-rooted homophobia that he holds. For here, cue the idiom - things said in the heat of the moment... Say no more.
