a short film by François Barbier.

2019 | 13 mins | France.

a touching tale on the meaning of friendship.

Dave says:

From writer and director François Barbier comes this touching tale on the meaning of friendship.

It follows the life of Sacha (Karim Camara); an out 'n' proud gay man with a-liking for transexual glitz 'n' glam, who arrives at his best friends flat - cue Léa Lounda in the role of Garance, for a night out of drinks 'n' dancing, only to find that also joining them that evening is straight faced and well straight all round, Estelle (Flore Bonaventura). Strangers to each other, it isn't long before they form a friendship, as drink gives way to dance and a night out with a striking punchline.

Frankly, there's a lot to like here, including some beautifully timed comic moments. Yet the show belongs to Karim Camara whose wondrous portrait of Sacha literally steals the show.

Well-played throughout, this is one of those short films that longs to be a feature, given you just know that behind all of the make-up and false eyelashes, lies the tears of a man who has had to face the ugly reality of homophobia / transphobia, as this short poignantly showcases. Yet Sacha remains eternally upbeat, ready to face the world with a "I am what I am" attitude to life. Simply bootyful.
