›› Pretty Boy ‹‹

a short film by Christian Coll.

2015 | 13 mins | Spain.

a pretty boy dreams of being a great filmmaker whilst hustling his way through life.

Dave says:

Packed with more costume changes than an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, this naughty but ever so nice short tells the story of twenty-year-old pretty boy Pablo (Josh Barrientos); a young man who dreams about being a great filmmaker, only to face the reality of hustling his way through life by way of letting others pay him for services rendered. Lucky for him that he's a boy who loves his work, being more than happy to do whatever his clients ask, provided they're willing to pay for it. Yet his lifestyle has left him a lonesome figure no longer believing in love, until that is another pretty boy catches his eye. Only life is not like the movies and happy endings are not guaranteed.

Played deliciously tongue-in-cheek fashion, this movie-within-a-movie is aided and abetted by a lush score that ranges from opera, through to classical, to the vibrant beat of the Latino sound. Yet the star of the show remains Barrientos, who wonderfully conveys the happy-go-lucky attitude of a young man determined never to give up on his dreams.

Sure, it has its negatives and frankly here I could have done without the anal close-ups. But that said, writer and director Christian Coll has crafted a lush work that's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, as broad as that of the pretty boy himself. Need more be said?
